A grim future beckons- and by the way, it’s Frankfurt tomorrow

So tomorrow it happens- we fly to Frankfurt to meet the new boss, albeit an interim boss with limited powers of execution. I am not too worried, mainly because if the rumours are correct, he won’t be there for long and secondly because professional behaviour should win over. My only crime is to be based in London and to be (loosely) associated with the outgoing regime. It will cost to get rid.
More worrying is the trend that has developed in the past few weeks of stabbings and shootings, mostly in South London. Admittedly, this area – the Brixton and Stockwell environs- has always been a little on the “no-go” side, but what is currently happening is frightening and a grim portent of things to come. Why are knives and guns so readily available these days, and why has black culture embraced them so. Why do people glorify violence so much. They say that rap music is partly to blame. If so, then ban it. Punish the brandishers of weapons. Clean up the ghettos. Lower of age of prosecution. If they are old enough to kill, they are old enough to be punished- appropriately. Hard line tactics are needed.
It makes you wonder what sort of country we are heading for in Britain. Ironically, I saw the film “Children of Men” this weekend in which Britain looked like a shanty town, brimming with illegal immigrants, tuk-tuk’s hurtling around everywhere and the police/army shooting everything in sight.
A grim future- is that what we are heading for after our trip to Frankfurt?
