I should have known something was going on. Today my boss resigned, ahead of the announcement that her boss (see below) was set to leave. Last week, with bonus in the air, there was plenty of abuse of “the lunch hour” and certain people were conspicuous by their absence. Some people in our department- the acolytes or disciples as I call them – enjoyed the benefits of a five hour lunch.
Today it became clear- she’s leaving, he’s probably going and uncertainty is in the air.
For the first time in some years, I put some feelers out about a new job. The now ex-boss is going to put a word in for me elsewhere in the firm and I have been in touch with some agencies just in case. Should I be worried? Probably not, but there is a horrible feeling of rats deserting the sinking ship at the moment. It’s every man for himself at the moment and although our worst fears may not be realised, there is little doubt that change, however good or bad, is a coming…
